History of the Fecon Bull Hog

The forestry mulching process commonly entails the complete removal of standing trees, stumps, and vegetation. Forestry mulching is an essential operation in right-of-way clearing and maintenance for roads, highways, pipelines, and similar applications. Beyond development, “proactive mulching”, forestry mulching is done to reduce stress on trees caused by crowding, making them less susceptible to attack from invasive species.

Mulching Meets Forestry Clearing and Maintenance Challenges

Conventional land clearing methods in many cases created an increased risk of erosion by pushing over trees, uprooting the stump and roots, and substantially disrupting soils. Alternatively, mulching the vegetation leaves the soil structure intact and mulched material can remain on the ground, serving as an erosion barrier that returns nutrients to the soil through decomposition.

When it comes to managing invasive species, using forestry equipment such as rotary cutters can laterally disperse harmful pests into neighboring healthy trees. Mulching harmful plants, insects, and fungus in place can control spreading because the mulching action discharges the material downward, within a relatively contained area.

The Fecon Bull Hog Line – Designed to Meet the Challenge

Over 20 years ago, Fecon created the Bull Hog line of brush cutting and forestry mulching attachments to meet all kinds of land clearing challenges. Bull Hog attachments are available in a wide variety of configurations for just about any tractor on the market. The Bull Hog can also be mounted on our own tracked- and rubber-tire carriers.

Bull Hog attachments allow you to process trees and other vegetation where they stand, consolidating several phases of land clearing, such as site prep, cutting/felling/hauling, and site cleanup. The need for multiple machines such as a bulldozer accompanied by some combination of excavators, tree shears, wood chippers or grinders, and hauling equipment is also eliminated. When only one mulching machine is required, fuel requirements and emissions are reduced, which is better for the environment.

Fecon’s Bull Hog mulching attachments come in a variety of options:

Bull Hog Excavator Attachment

Attached to an excavator, the Bull Hog forestry mulchers are ideal for clearing trees and brush along places that are difficult to reach, including steep roadsides, ravines, creeks, and riverbanks.

Bull Hog for Hydraulic Machines

Hydraulic driven Bull Hogs are engineered to provide the best combination of cutting tools, width, weight, and driveline options for operation on open-loop, load sense, or closed-loop hydraulic systems up to 600hp.

Bull Hog for Skid Steers

Bull Hog high flow skid steer mulchers are ideal for clearing brush, trees and stumps down to ground level. Standing trees 4-6″ in diameter can be quickly mulched (depending on horsepower) and 6-8″ trees intermittently processed.
